The Romans are Coming!

Bringing History to Life beyond the Classroom

Banner_Roman.png

Roman authority in Britain lasted nearly 400 years.  Their legacy still captures our imagination and influences modern ideas of civilisation.  Introducing the effect of the Romans on Britain can be best understood by first studying the military, their dress, attitudes and beliefs.  Pupils love the challenge of “military training” to become disciplined Roman soldiers.

What might the day include?

Roman days are a great opportunity for children to come to school in costume.  The emphasis is on having FUN, using artefacts, role-play, and games to teach history in an engaging and meaningful way.  A day in the Roman army can include any or all of these topics:

o  The conquest and occupation of Britain.

Joining the Army.

Training new recruits.

Discipline and Punishments.

Military dress, armour and equipment.

Revolting Boudicca.

Team building with Roman Army drill.

Let Me Entertain You: gladiators and chariot racing.
